Olde Ipswich Shop & Gallery
Our shop and gallery are located in our 1800's carriage barn. We offer a wonderful selection of American goods and decorative pieces handmade by American craftsmen. We carry redware from several potters including Red Oaks, Liberty, Henderson and Bennington. We also feature an outstanding collection of handcrafted silver jewely created and signed by Native American Indians.
We have textiles for kitchen, bedroom and table that have been woven on wooden looms. We have an extensive selection of outstanding Ironstone plates, pitchers and casseroles dating from the 18th and 19th century. Our country antiques include wooden measures, buckets, tables and blanket chests.
Our tin hanging lighting highlights our small room displays. Many of our customers bring in their small table lamps to select a lampshade from our country collection. Our black iron hooks, curtain rods and plant hangers are in constant demand.
Highlighting the walls of the shop are the many fine art prints in various sizes created from Johanne Cassia's original overmantels. Her collection has expanded into greeting cards, bookmarks, tote bags and hand decorated boxes.
We moved twelve years ago into a 300 year old colonial home in Ipswich, MA. I had a dream for many years that I would open an antique shop in a barn. Since I grew up in New England and loved colonial history, and the changing seasons, this was a great move for me. Ipswich has 50 plus First period homes and a magnificent beach. Instead of flying to work as a business consultant, I now had the freedom to open a shop in our barn. My husband, Frank, supported my dream and made it come true.
I decided to paint murals on the walls of our home and shop. I was inspired by the primitive art of itinerant artists of the 18th and 19thc. Living only 4 miles from Cogswell Grant, I had the opportunity to see real examples of the arts and crafts of earlier times. In that spirit, I began to paint. My pieces are both serene and joyful. I create my work from early photos, history books, calendars and the ever changing landscapes of our seacoast community. Many of my collectors have said they could "walk right into my paintings".
